YSI Showcase
The YSI showcase was a most memorable experience with several activities including a disco, open mic, loads of games and plays to watch over the two days. There were several competitions to enter and a diary room for you to talk about your project in. The highlight for everyone seems to be the disco (although sore feet on the girls’ part come to mind!). Unfortunately we didn’t get any prizes but at least we have all these wonderful memories from doing the project.
DVD Available
The DVD of our TY production of We love… Musicals is available to buy for €20 in the office.
TY Show
Our TY production of We Love… Musicals will take place on Thursday April 26th, Friday April 27th and Saturday April 28th. We will be singing and dancing to several songs from a wide variety of Musicals including South Pacific, Guys and Dolls and High School Musical. Special guests include Sarah Cleere, James Maher and Ian Dwyer. Hope you’ll be there to give your support!
YSI projects accepted
On Thursday the 29th of March, all TY’s logged on to the Young Social Innovators website to see if the projects were accepted to showcase. Low and behold, both of our projects were accepted! We will be showcasing our projects on the 9th and 10th of May. Hope to see you there!
Lyric FM
On Thursday the 29th of March, we were visited by Lorcan Murray and Sean Rocks from Lyric Fm to learn how to piece together a slot on the radio. We were divided into groups and we were assigned jobs i.e. presenter. We listened to pieces of music to choose which three we would play in our slot. We listened to jingles and selected appropriate times to slot them in. Each group had to come up with their own ideas for what to do e.g. review, interview, news etc. It was great craic especially when things went wrong when they were played back afterwards! It was a great experience and we all learned how a radio show is made and how to use some of the equipment.
PS- Fingers crossed for YSI projects!

YSI projects submitted
On March the 8th, both YSI projects submitted their projects for assessment by the judges. This is so that the project numbers can be scaled down to the best 193 for exhibitioning in the RDS on May 9th and 10th. We will find out the verdict on the 29th of March.
Speak out Fora
On the 6th of February, we transition years went to Waterford to the Speak out Fora to talk about our YSI projects (Don’t be tight, spend it right and Second hand smoking: Fact or Fiction? you decide!). The idea of this is to help raise awareness to what your project is about. We got loads of media coverage. The Government Spending group were interviewed for the radio and the Second Hand Smoking group drew photographer’s attention with their t-shirts bearing the slogan second hand smoke kills. We all felt that we managed to give the crowd some idea as to what our projects are about in our allocated two minute spots. We got a good indication of what the competition for Dublin would be like and we also learned a thing or two about the other projects. (Shopping followed this eventful day!!!)
TY Work experience
Transition Year work experience will be taking place from the 15th to the 26th of January. We will all be exploring a wide range of jobs varying from vets to electricians to teachers.
Note to all TY’s- Don’t forget to fill out work your experience diaries!!
